NICAM stands for Near Instantaneously Companded Audio Multiplex.
NICAM is a digital stereo sound system for analogue TV. It means all your television sound will be sharp and clear, and when you are watching a movie you will hear all the same stereo effects that you could in a cinema.
NICAM was developed by BBC Research in England who started broadcasting with NICAM stereo sound in 1988.
